World War II vet honored

Charles P. Jacobi, 98, received a special gift on Saturday, Sept. 5, from the American Legion Riders Chapter 265 of Jacksonville, led by Jacobi’s son Buddy, pictured with his father. The World War II veteran, who served in all nine campaigns of the war, earned The Silver Star and four Bronze Stars, according to Buddy, who lives in Bogue. The American Legion Riders presented the medals Jacobi earned framed in a shadow box. Jacobi, a resident of The Cottages of Swansboro, is in hospice, which allowed the visit under the COVID-19 restrictions. About 15 riders took part. (Pete Rulon photo)
