GOLDSBORO (AP) — A 3-year-old child was killed in a collision stemming from a police chase involving a reckless driver, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

Authorities received a call about a reckless driver around 11 a.m. on Tuesday before the driver hit a car and a truck stopped at an intersection on U.S. Highway 70 in Goldsboro, WRAL reported, citing the patrol. The truck was then pushed into the back of a tractor-trailer that was also at the intersection, the patrol said.

Reina Sorian-Regalada, 41, of Goldsboro, had 3-year-old Ariel Sorian in her truck when the crash occurred, the patrol said. Sorian-Regalada was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The patrol said Christopher Kelly Blair, 39, of LaGrange was charged with reckless driving for traveling 75 mph in a 55-mph zone prior to the crash. Blair was also hospitalized with serious injuries, the patrol said, adding that Blair suffered an undisclosed medical condition.
