TO THE EDITOR:

Data has proven lockdowns to be a failure. Sunshine kills the virus quickly. A study conducted by Hiroshima University researchers found that using Ultraviolet C light with a wavelength of 222 nanometers which is safer to use around humans effectively kills SARS-CoV-2 -- the first research in the world to prove its efficacy against the virus that causes COVID-19.

UV light and sunshine are the same thing. To ignore this fact and recommend the opposite is criminal. I have installed a UV light source in my own HVAC and it works to kill ALL virus and bacteria. The CDC and an army of medical experts ignore this. Why? GOOGLE IT

Other studies involving 222 nm UVC, also known as Far-UVC, have so far only looked at its potency in eradicating seasonal coronavirus that are structurally similar to the SARS-CoV-2 but not on the COVID-19-causing virus itself. A nanometer is equivalent to one billionth of a meter.

An in vitro experiment by HU researchers showed that 99.7% of the SARS-CoV-2 viral culture was killed after a 30-second exposure to 222 nm UVC irradiation at 0.1 mW/cm2. The study is published in the American Journal of Infection Control.

Tests were conducted using Ushio's Care222TM krypton-chloride excimer lamp. A 100 microliter solution containing the virus (ca. 5 × 106 TCID50/mL) was spread onto a 9-centimeter sterile polystyrene plate. The researchers allowed it to dry in a biosafety cabinet at room temperature before placing the Far-UVC lamp 24 centimeters above the surface of the plates.

222 nm vs 254 nm UVC

A wavelength of 222 nm UVC cannot penetrate the outer, non-living layer of the human eye and skin so it won't cause harm to the living cells beneath. This makes it a safer but equally potent alternative to the more damaging 254 nm UVC germicidal lamps increasingly used in disinfecting healthcare facilities.

Since 254 nm UVC harms exposed human tissues, it can only be used to sanitize empty rooms. But 222 nm UVC can be a promising disinfection system for occupied public spaces including hospitals where nosocomial infections are a possibility.

The researchers, however, suggest further evaluation of the safety and effectiveness of 222 nm UVC irradiation in killing SARS-CoV-2 viruses in real-world surfaces as their study only investigated its in vitro efficacy.

The Far-UVC research is one of the four COVID-19 studies conducted by Hiroshima University scientists that received funding from the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development.

Drs. Hiroki Kitagawa, Toshihito Nomura, and Hiroki Ohge of Hiroshima University Hospital's Department of Infectious Diseases, and Dr. Takemasa Sakaguchi of the Hiroshima University Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences were behind the study.

Many laboratories in the university are conducting research on the novel coronavirus under the "Hiroshima University CoV-Peace-Project."

POLITICIANS AND GOVERNMENTS CANNOT BE TRUSTED. IT APPEARS THAT THE VACCINE MAKER WILL HAVE SOLE PRIORITY BECAUSE THAT IS WHERE THE MONEY IS. COVID 19 AND THE COMMON COLD ARE CLOSELY RELATED ORGANISMS. THERE IS NO EFFECTIVE VACCINE FOR THE COMMON COLD. NONE. WHY SHOULD WE EXPECT ANYTHING BETTER? LOOK FOR GREED AND FOLLOW THE MONEY AND REMEMBER CHANCES OF DYING FROM COVID 19 ARE ROUGHLY THE SAME AS BEING STRUCK BY LIGHTNING. REALITY IS REALITY IS REALITY..

Reality is: From 2010 to 2019 on average 26 people died each year from lightning strikes in the United States.

mpjeep

Survival rate from Covid is 99.9%.

noitall

My comments re lightning referred to hits not deaths. Hits period. OK?

A quiet conscience sleeps in thunder.

Greed and stupidity, are always the driving force of decisions made by humans. This pandemic is flourishing due to many factors. There are viable, credible, and effective measures we can take to try and control this one from spreading. Unfortunately, this has become a "political" virus more than anything.

Inevitably, in the end, evolution is the decider.

mpjeep

Agree, justice and maybe even with evolution for all.[smile]

CARTERETISCORRUPT

Greed and stupidity. You are absolutely correct. IT is all around us, facilitated by some very bad laws. How right you are. Bad laws made by greedy and stupid law makers. Unintended or not, bad consequences. Loathe to correct the bad laws. Too much money for the lawyers.

mpjeep

My research shows an average of 49 people per year die from lightning strikes.

Either way, that's a gotcha stat you caught the writer in, ski. Good job.

And all those numbers....wow....over my head, but as I've said before 5 out of 4 people have trouble with math (me included).

mpjeep

I’ve been doing and going exactly the same as before the virus. The only things I have changed are wearing a face mask, socially distancing and washing my hands often. No lockdown for me and no virus.

Researchers warned that lockdowns could prove far deadlier than the coronavirus. People who lose their jobs or businesses are more prone to fatal drug overdoses and suicide, and evidence already exists that many more will die from cancer, heart disease, pneumonia, and tuberculosis and other diseases because the lockdown prevented their ailments from being diagnosed early and treated properly.

Governor Cooper and Governor Cuomo profess to be following “the science,” but no ethical scientist would conclude that lockdowns are necessary without carefully considering other dangers and monitoring the results.

The economic and social costs have been enormous and it’s not clear that the lockdowns have brought significant health benefits beyond what was achieved by people’s voluntary social distancing, wearing face masks and washing their hands often.

In a study of 50 countries found that Covid was deadlier in places with older populations and higher rates of obesity, but the mortality rate was No lower in countries that enforced full lockdowns.

Covid-19 disproportionately affects people over 65, who have accounted for nearly 80 percent of the deaths in the United States. The vast majority suffered from other ailments, and more than 40 percent of the victims were living in nursing homes, where the median life expectancy after admission is just five months.

And many shutdowns are just ridiculous. You can play contact sports like basketball, football and hockey, but you can’t go bowling. I can’t believe anyone would say this makes sense.

The lockdowns may have been justified in the spring, when so little was known about the virus, but now that we know more, there’s no ethical justification for continuing with lockdowns.

Lockdowns and virtual learning doesn’t seem to be helping our young folks.

Percentage of students that have failed at least one class this year:

25 % of Wake County high school and middle school students.

40 % of Guilford County high school students.

35 % of Hanover County middle school students.

40% of Hanover County high school students.

50 % of Black and Hispanic students in Hanover County compared to 22% of White.

Couldn’t find info on Carteret County schools.

CARTERETISCORRUPT

Carteret hasn't figured out yet how to do percentages.

LE226

mpjeep excellent comments and analysis. What struck me was the 50% of Black and Hispanic students in Hanover County compared to 22% of White.....?

I have my thoughts but wonder what the thoughts of others are for this stat and/or the educators involved with those students...This is unacceptable as well as some of the other #'s you have posted here but this in particular really sticks out.

The educators or professionals involved with these students should speak out and offer reasons and solutions...are they forthcoming! Not just for this group but on behalf of any group!

mpjeep

My info on school failures came from a story in the Raleigh News & Observer. Very concerning. Wish I could find out how our students in CC are doing.

Sleepwalker

Le...i could answer but the truth offends many.

mpjeep

Even with Guilford county at a 40% one-class failure rate they decided this:

Guilford County Schools will move to remote learning for all students for the week "after" Thanksgiving.

"UV light and sunshine are the same thing."

No. 10% of the sunlight is UV light. Less than half of this 10% penetrates the earths atmospfere.

You can be out in the sun from sunrise to sunset every day and the amount of UVC light you would be exposed to in a year is exactly ZERO. 100% of the UVC light from the sun is blocked by the atmospfere. This is lucky for us because UVC is more dangerous to us than UVA and UVB.

CARTERETISCORRUPT

Believing in sunlight, uv light is racist.

Let us not forget Shutdown Snyder (RETT) Newton's shutdown of Beaufort. Remember the damage done to local businesses. If you believe in Beaufort, you cannot vote for Newton for mayor.

we need ONLY one law suit against Newton for violating constitutional rights and damages. Only one to send a chilling message to these closet bullies.

Harsh lockdowns and strict rules for Some.

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito warned.“Tolerance for opposing views is now in short supply,” Alito added “In certain quarters religious liberty has fast become a disfavored right,”

He cited the Supreme Court cases of the Little Sisters of the Poor, an order of Roman Catholic Nuns, who were exempted from a requirement to provide birth control coverage to employees and the Colorado baker who was allowed to refuse service to a gay couple for their wedding.

“Religious liberty is in danger of becoming a second-class right,” he warned, adding concerns about free speech and the Second Amendment”.

He also said that houses of worship, with lockdowns, have been treated unfairly compared to other businesses during the pandemic, like in the case of casinos in Nevada.

He closed by saying that standing up for the Constitution and freedom is work that lies ahead for all Americans.

It’s been more than one month since large crowds attended church events at the United House of Prayer for All People on Beatties Ford Road. In that time, public health contact tracers and Mecklenburg officials have connected 213 COVID-19 cases to the events, which includes attendees and people who came in close contact with participants.

A total of 12 people have died, including 10 Mecklenburg residents and two Gaston County residents, officials said in a news statement Thursday.

Who knew standing shoulder to shoulder and singing was dangerous in a respiratory pandemic? Justice Alito seems stuck in 1950. Its a complicated issue this religious freedom. I think pvt buisnesses should be allowed to refuse service to anyone for any reason and suffer the consequences if they choose that route. Gov't, should not in any way shape or form. freedom of religion includes freedom from religion.

mpjeep

Glad to know you are for any type of discrimination, sir.

CARTERETISCORRUPT

Justice Alito is right on target. All Americans will have a hard choice to make very soon, either to lie down and become subjects, or to stand up and be citizens. We will have to leave our comfort zone to do this, and some will lose their lives. But in the end, the tree of liberty will be once again refreshed. IT has been far too long, thus we find ourselves in the plight.

David Collins

Have not seen government dictating what anyone’s religious beliefs should be . One does not have to necessarily gather to believe . It does appear that gatherings do promote the spread of this end of world pandemic called Covid . I made up the end of world part in tribute to the alarmist media , of all types . Sarcasm .

Social distancing is certainly the way to go in my mind. I try to stay at least 6 feet apart from folks in stores and I always wear my mask. Wife just got me a new Christmas mask. I wanted one from the character in the movie “Scream” or by the artist Edvard Munch

Dr. Christine Laine, editor-in-chief of the Annals of Internal Medicine, told The New York Times, research shows masks “are not a magic bullet.” Annals of Internal Medicine is a medical journal published by the American College of Physicians. It is one of the most widely cited and influential medical journals in the world.

I'm afraid that "Dr." Matheson is off on a tangent of self-delusion. The UVC in sunlight is filtered out by the earth's atmosphere. A quick Google search will reveal that "Dr." Matheson's letter is plagiarized from Internet sources. And looking at those original sources will suggest that "Dr." Matheson's letter is completely out of context. I am looking forward to "Dr." Matheson's next letter in which I'll expect him to explain how he plans to deliver UVC to the bars and restaurants of the Crystal Coast. Make mine masks, gloves and sanitizer at six feet, for now, and Pfizer or Moderna vaccinations as soon as they become available. Science and medicine support all of these precautions and interventions. "Dr." Matheson has been too long in the noon day sun.

Militant teachers unions, not teachers, in NY are keeping schools closed. But in other parts of the country………..

Active cases of COVID-19 in Surry County, NC remain near an all-time high, while total cases continue climbing, but two places which seem to have a handle on how to prevent the virus’ spread are the city and county school systems.

City school superintendent Kim Morrison said schools take temperatures each morning and check for symptoms. “Our schools are the safest place for your students and our staff to be, compared to any other place in the community,”.

Her assertions are backed up by Dr. Christopher Ohl, infectious disease expert with Wake Forest Baptist Health. Dr. Ohl, who gives periodic COVID-19 updates for the Triad area of North Carolina, said schools are certainly safer than many businesses, or even other activities children and youth may engage in.

David Collins

Speaking of NY Teachers Unions . Have you actually seen these union member’s and heard them speak ? Good gosh, what parent that loves their child would want them to be within 10 miles of these creatures , never mind in school being taught by them . UGH !

Closed schools mean a whole lot of people being paid not to work but those union dues keep flowing . NC better take note of this as the unions would love to move in here but then there is the NCAE . Another piece of work in process .

David Collins

Just heard the daily Vidant Medical Covid count . As of this morning there are 14 patients in the ICU throughout the entire system . Not quite the gloom and doom scenario touted by the media .

David Collins

On another note , over 150,000 souls a year in India , lose their lives to auto wrecks . No mention of having to park their mobility devices .

mpjeep

It’s one thing to be asked to wear face masks, socially distance and wash your hands often, but how does anyone think taking away our constitutional rights/bill of rights is acceptable? Like Thanksgiving in your own home, with restrictions on the number of guests and even some saying to wear a face mask in your own home under penalty of jail time.

A health crisis does not supersede the constitution, does it?

And for Cooper and other governors to think they know what’s best for businesses and customers, while they ignore their own mandates is going way too far and may be time “We The People” start pushing back.

Politicians are using COVID to see just how much power they can grab and how many liberties can be eliminated.

drewski

Public emergencies do supercede the constitution, mandatory evacuation orders? Refusing to let ppl back to their homes after fire flood hurricane. If you have active tb and are not taking your meds you can and will be locked up.

Lincoln suspended habeas corpus and that was in effect till the Supreme Court overrode him. State govenors have broad powers in a public health or other emergency.

mpjeep

Wrong on 2 counts: Mandatory evacuation for hurricanes is for visitors only, not full-time residents. I know, I've ridden out plenty on AB when evacuations were called for. It's you life and they will not send help if you need it, but you can stay in your own homes.

And Covid is not a national emergency.

mpjeep

Let me retract my comments on Covid not being declared a national emergency. It was. For some reason, I was thinking congress had to approve the president’s request for an emergency.

As far as mandatory evacuation for hurricanes, I stand by my original statement. But, if you, as a full-time resident, leave on your own accord, the cops can keep you from reentering until they give an all clear. But they can’t force you to leave….visitors only

CARTERETISCORRUPT

All this but HIV infected persons continue to infect others, at will. There is a public epidemic of alcohol traffic deaths, far exceeding Covid, every year. Yet, in neither of the above situations, have any emergency actions been taken, even with the death rates. Hypocrisy is smoldering rampantly. The Constitution MUST supercede any perceived "emergency" otherwise, it can be suspended at will, by any politician, by any real or FALSE emergency. Thus, it is vital that the Constitution be firm and concrete. Otherwise, it is but a suggestion. Too many have died in defense of our Constitution, for me to EVER cede anything over our Constitution. My oath is to defend the Constitution, and I will do that to my death if necessary. There you have it. Are you willing to give your life in support of a wavering Constitution?

David Collins

The declaration of a state of emergency is a tool of convenience used by dictators , and those that strive to be , world wide . Open your eyes , turn off the idiot box and read a bit . The word “ emergency “ has lost it’s meaning .

noitall

Some unanswered questions. Why is the epidemic a national emergency? Death rate is statistically zero. What am I missing. Can those victims who recover catch it again - like common cold virus. N95 masks are approved for hospital ICU and operating room service. If your mask is not meet N95 specs it may not be as effective as we are led to believe. For example one cannot use a chain likk fence to stop mosquito s that carry malaria. Why is sunlight and UV being ignored as a viable and cheap disinfectant?

mpjeep

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) is urging Americans to enjoy Thanksgiving regardless of coronavirus restrictions. One America’s John Hines spoke with the lawmaker who argued that the holiday restrictions are against the Constitution and fail to protect people.

David Collins

This epidemic is a national concern , not an emergency ! It is being used as a tool to take our attention away from the reality of a concerted effort to advance socialist agendas upon us all . Authoritarian rule is replacing freedom of choice and freedom from oppressive government and quite alarmingly the “ John Q. Public “ is falling in line with this . Never let a crisis , be it real or imagined , go to waste . That statement is rapidly coming to fruition . As the “ Man “ once said , you ain’t seen nothing yet !

Masks , think for a second , just which countries are quite famous for having to wear them on a daily basis ? Probably , unless you are Bernie Sanders , you would not make them your first choice to live in them . Probably . Now they are here and “ required , so just shut up and wear them or face legal action “ . Sound familiar ? Perhaps not yet , everywhere , but it will . Do they work for the intended , stated purpose , germ control ? Some surgical quality masks protect the other person , not necessarily the wearer . Total protection requires “ space suits and air filtration devices “ . Try one of them on for size and maneuverability in an everyday life scenario , like driving a car . Nope , life is tough at times and to live it well one must make choices , take risks and deal with any consequences as best as one can . No one ever promised you a rose garden .

mpjeep

It was very sad for my wife and I when our first grandchild arrived 7 weeks ago. We were not allowed to be anywhere in the hospital due to Covid. Only our son-in-law was allowed in.

But can you imagine how these restrictions are for loved ones with terminal diseases. Rules/laws politicians and hospitals are torturing the dying physically, emotionally, and spiritually. No loved ones are beside the sufferers to quench their thirst, hold their hands or pray with them.

Those imposing heavy-handed Covid rules must realize the truth: restricting access to the dying is cruel and keeping people from their suffering loved ones does not safeguard them. It merely subjects them to a different kind of suffering.

CARTERETISCORRUPT

As far as mask are concerned, in the absence of N95 mask use, the other masks are ineffective at the least. The chain link fence analogy, to keep out mosquitoes is quite illustrative. In the hospital setting, N95 mask use, and also the positive pressure helmet apparatus, is used against airborne particles, including viruses. The cloth mask, or god forbid the simple "bandit" bank robber type mask seen recently, are worthless at best. If you truly want protection, wear a N95 mask. The rest are folly.

David Collins

The decrees just say masks ! No elaborating on what type or form . Just masks .

The Supreme Court of the United States of America has restrained the authorities from enforcing the severe restrictions imposed by New York Gov Cuomo.

And according to the Supreme Court:

Even in a pandemic, the Constitution cannot be put away and forgotten. The restrictions at issue here, by effectively barring many from attending religious services, strike at the very heart of the First Amendment's guarantee of religious liberty.

It is time to make plain that, while the pandemic poses many grave challenges, there is no world in which the Constitution tolerates the opening of liquor stores and bike shops but shutters churches.

Maybe an emergency doesn’t trump the Constitution, especially when being cherry picked..
