William J. “Bill” Montfort Jr., 94, of Swansboro, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at the Lighthouse Village in Jacksonville.

A graveside service was Saturday at the Montford Point Cemetery in Jacksonville with the Rev. Ron Gurganus and the Rev. Kevin Baker officiating.

He was born March 8, 1926, in Onslow County, the son of the late, William J. Montfort Sr. and Margaret Lewis Montfort. Bill served his country in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by sons, William Joseph Montfort III of Florida, Robert Warren Montfort of New Jersey and Richard Edward Montfort of Swansboro; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Montfort; and his wife, Dorothy Matteson Montfort.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House, 100 Big Rock Weigh, Newport, NC 28570.
