Chris Chadwick, Republican, incumbent, District 6

Part one: Let’s talk the issues in 25 words or less.

1. Do you support the county sales tax referendum? What about the bond referendum for schools?

Yes, dredging crucial for all residents, visitors. It is an economic engine. Yes, there are much-needed school improvements, the hurricane-ready shelter/gyms.

2. What is the most pressing issue facing the district you are running to represent?

Keeping waterways open for commercial fishermen, pleasure boats needed desperately. Waterways are life-blood to our economy. Ecotourism, ferries are also part of the economic engine.

3. Do you support offshore testing, drilling and development off the state’s coast?

Yes, if it is done in a safe manner to the environment, I would support the jobs it would bring to our local economy.

4. How can the county better adapt to climate change and prepare for future storms?

Climate runs in cycles, and the county cannot control Mother Nature. Elevating homes with federal grants and building above flood plain is the first step.

5. Do you support school reopening in person, virtually or a hybrid model given the coronavirus pandemic?

I completely support in-person learning. Students need face-to-face. Families that want virtual should have option, but almost everyone I talk with is suffering right now.

6. Would you like to see the Confederate monument remain on courthouse grounds in Beaufort?

Yes, it is part of our American history.

Part two: Meet your candidate.
