Part two: Meet your candidate

I’m Katie Statler, a 33-year-old mom of three (ages 5, 7 and 9), and lifelong Carteret County (Newport) resident. I hold a degree in family and community services and child development from East Carolina University. I’ve served as Newport Elementary PTO president for three years, as well as 3 years as the Parent Advisory Council representative to the Board of Education.

I’ve spent the past two years preparing to serve on the board – attending all BOE meetings, studying budget, educational legislation, policies and procedures. School safety is one of my top priorities, ensuring we are proactive, and never reactive when safety is concerned. Ensuring our teachers and students come first in every decision made in the board room is my goal.

I live at 233 Legacy Lane, Newport, and can be reached at 252-725-3944 or statlerboe.com.
