CycleNC cycles through Swansboro

Nearly a thousand visitors rolled through Swansboro on Saturday morning as Cycle NC made its final stop before concluding in Atlantic Beach that evening. Among the 900 riders was Gene Helbig of Southport, pictured taking a “selfie.” He was among a group of riders who raised about $5,000 for the Jack Helbig Memorial Foundation. Named for Helbig’s grandson, who drowned, the foundation provides water safety swim lessons in Brunswick County. The seven-day ride starts in the mountains and ends several days later on the coast each year. Swansboro has been a stop on the annual ride for a number of years. (Williams photo)
