GREENVILLE — The West Carteret softball team fell to nonconference Topsail 12-0 on Saturday as part of an Easter tournament at D.H. Conley.

The Patriots were mercy ruled in five innings after the Pirates (13-3) scored seven runs in the second inning and four in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie in the first.

Luckily for West, the contest doesn’t hamper its 3A Coastal Conference championship aspirations. The Patriots have won 19 straight in league play, helping them to be ranked No. 21 in the 3A classification, according to MaxPreps.com.

Topsail is ranked No. 10 in the state and No. 3 in the 3A.

BWCCS has dropped a Legends race that was going to be held Saturday, July 13 alongside the CARS Late Model Stock Tour to avoid conflicting with the Legends Roval Race planned at Southern National on the same day.  Meanwhile, Southern National has dropped Legends from their races on Saturdays, May 11 and June 8. The Legends division will be in action this Saturday at the Carteret County track in the N.C. Aquarium of Pine Knoll Shores Clash at the Coast.
