MOREHEAD CITY — An Easter baseball tournament put on by Croatan at West Carteret wrapped up Tuesday with a 10-3 win by the Patriots.

The Morehead City squad poured on runs early to finish their tournament run 2-1. The Patriots (13-4) played twice on Monday, beating West Columbus 6-1 and falling to Southern Nash 13-10.

The Cougars also battled both teams, defeating Southern Nash 7-6 and losing to West Columbus 17-12. West Columbus (13-6) wound up winning the tournament 9-2 over Southern Nash (7-14).

The tournament was initially slated to take place at Big Rock Stadium, but ongoing construction from Hurricane Florence redirected the event to West.


MOREHEAD CITY — West Carteret split a pair of Easter tournament contests at home on Monday.

The Patriots (13-4) won 6-1 over West Columbus (13-6) after falling 13-10 to Southern Nash (7-14). Both games were part of a tournament hosted by Croatan at the West field.


MOREHEAD CITY — The Croatan baseball team went 1-1 in Easter tournament action on Monday.

The Cougars (7-13 overall) fell 17-12 to West Columbus (13-6) after winning 7-6 over Southern Nash (7-14). Both games took place at West Carteret.


GREENVILLE — The West Carteret softball team fell to nonconference Topsail 12-0 on Saturday as part of an Easter tournament at D.H. Conley.

The Patriots were mercy ruled in five innings after the Pirates (13-3) scored seven runs in the second inning and four in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie in the first.

Luckily for West, the contest doesn’t hamper its 3A Coastal Conference championship aspirations. The Patriots have won 19 straight in league play, helping them to be ranked No. 21 in the 3A classification, according to

Topsail is ranked No. 10 in the state and No. 3 in the 3A.


PELETIER — Bobby Watson’s Carteret County Speedway (BWCCS) and Southern National Motorsports Park have agreed to shift a handful of dates for Legends division races to avoid conflicts over the spring and summer months.

BWCCS has dropped a Legends race that was going to be held Saturday, July 13 alongside the CARS Late Model Stock Tour to avoid conflicting with the Legends Roval Race planned at Southern National on the same day.  Meanwhile, Southern National has dropped Legends from their races on Saturdays, May 11 and June 8. The Legends division will be in action this Saturday at the Carteret County track in the N.C. Aquarium of Pine Knoll Shores Clash at the Coast.
