Sylvester Johnson Sr., 67, of Beaufort, died Tuesday, July 2, 2019, in Beaufort.

Ritualistic services by the Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star will be conducted 6 p.m. Monday at Oscar’s Memorial Chapel in New Bern. His service is at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Beaufort. Interment with military honors will follow at Oceanview Cemetery.

Sylvester served his country for more than 20 years in the U.S. Army and was a member and deacon at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Louvetta “Kate” Stanley Johnson of the home; two sons, Sylvester Johnson Jr. of Durham and Reginald Kelly of Summerville, S.C.; two daughters, Lisa Washington of Goose Creek, S.C., and Angela Johnson of Durham; four brothers, Thomas Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Jerry Johnson and LeVerne Johnson, both of Beaufort, and Matthew Johnson of Havelock; and two grandchildren.

Friends and family may express condolences at 412 Queen St. in Beaufort.
