Rosella was born to the late Ethel Tremley Stanard and the late Oliver Huffman Stanard on June 21, 1931, in Columbia, S.C. Raised in Raleigh, she graduated from Needham Broughton High School in 1949 and St. Mary’s College in 1951. She then married her husband of 60 wonderful years, Harold K. Strawbridge. After living in Germany for two years where her husband was stationed with the U.S. Army, they returned to Durham to work in the family business, Strawbridge Studios Inc. Working together, they grew the business. It is now the third largest school picture company in the United States. For more than 50 years, Rosella was a member of the Durham Exchangette Club, a local civic club that supported the child abuse center in Durham and the Exchange Club Industries, a workshop that employs more than 300 mentally and physically disadvantaged adults. She served as president in 1962-1963 and received the outstanding Exchangette of the Year Award in both 1967-1968 and again in 2004-2005. Mrs. Strawbridge was a member of Grey Stone Baptist Church where she was a member of Skeeter Humphrey’s Sunday school class. She worked in vacation Bible school for many years. She was very active in her children’s schools as they grew up and served as PTO president several different years throughout their school careers. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Croasdaile Ladies Book Club.
Words cannot describe what a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend Rosella has been.
