Robert “Bob” Lawrence Fay, 72, of Newport, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019, at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City.
His service with full military honors is at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 30 in Stephen, Minn. The service will be officiated by Pastor Mike Schendel, with military honors provided by Star of the North Marine Corps League.
Bob was born Nov. 16, 1946, in Warren, Minn., to Lawrence and Florence Anderson Fay. He was raised in Stephen and graduated from Stephen High School in 1964. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War and remained a devoted Marine all his life. Among his many awards were three good conduct medals and a Vietnam Service Medal. He was very proud of his contributions in technical and operations management and retired honorably as a master sergeant with more than 20 years of service.
After retirement from the Marine Corps, he took a position at Quantico Marine Corps Base. Bob had a passion for antique collecting, speed reading and staying up to date with his beloved Minnesota family.
Bob married Dorothy Byrd Mooney Feb. 14, 1993, and they resided in Newport.
Bob is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, John and Lynette Fay of Stephen, Minn.; four nieces, Janelle Saiger and significant other Tim Slough of Bemidji, Minn., Jackie Schluchter and husband Scott of Fargo, N.D., Joetta McLean and husband Kevin of Little Falls, Minn., and Janeen Kleinwachter and husband Brian of Middle River, Minn.; six great-nephews, Bryce, Blake, Broeden, Grant, Brekken and Gavin; six great-nieces, Taylor, Lauren, Brooklyn, Olivia, Ayla and Brielle; and special friend, Tina Whaley of Morehead City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Florence Fay; and his wife, Dorothy Fay, on Dec. 28, 2017.
