BEAUFORT — The County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Havelock couple on trafficking opium charges after a routine traffic stop.

Bradley Alexander Adams, and Brittany Elizabeth Vella, both 21 and of Victory Circle, have been accused of possessing more than 100 pills, more than 56 grams of marijuana and scales after a traffic stop, authorities said.

Mr. Adams and Ms. Vella were each charged with two counts of trafficking opium, one count of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver (PWIMSD) a schedule IV narcotics,  one count of PWIMSD, one count of PWIMSD a schedule VI drug, two counts of PWIMSD a schedule VI drug, one count of maintaining a vehicle to sell or transport narcotics, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, one count of sale and delivery of a schedule VI  drug, two counts of maintaining a vehicle to sell or transport narcotics and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Tuesday press release from the County Sheriff’s Office.

Mr. Adams was also charged with possession with intent to manufacture sell and deliver marijuana resulting from an undercover controlled drug purchase from Mr. Adams on an earlier date. He was placed in the county jail under a $100,000 secured bond and Ms. Vella was placed on a $20,000 secured bond.

Authorities say Ms. Vella and Mr. Adams were traveling on Highway 70 in Newport in Ms. Vella’s Jeep Cherokee when deputies conducted a traffic stop and detected a strong odor of marijuana.

Lt. Debbie Stevens and K9 “Chopper” conducted a further search resulting in a positive alert by Chopper who located narcotics in an interior compartment.

Deputies discovered 62 Oxycodone pills, 38 Alprazolam pills, 11 morphine pills, a set of digital scales, and a total of 56 grams of marijuana in separate packages, according to the release.

To all of you who want to harass the family of the individuals charged in this article....STOP AND THINK1) you should be ashamed of yourself for harassing an innocent party and making sly, and rude comments to someone you do not even know2)Our Justice system simply states that anyone who has been charged is "INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY"3) If you believe in GOD our bible tells us that "we should not judge others, God will do that on Judgement Day"Therefore, if you are intelligent enough to read this post, if you believe in GOD, if you believe in our justice system, or if you have any decency you will end this blog and keep your thoughts and comments to yourself.

Everyone should just mind thier own business. This matter has nothing to do with any of you. The law officers did thier jobs and so will the courts. Why is it that everyone has to stick thier nose in someone else's business? Is it because evryone here has no life? Maybe some of you should go out and get a job so you dont have so much free time to comment on blogs all day.

I really don't need you people telling me to stay in school. I chose to go to college and further my education for myself not any of you. You people really do totally skip off point on these things. I stated a wide known fact in this matter and all you people can come up with is how I dont use a comma here or a period there. Good luck to you all. I just hope there is some people with enough itteligence to actually see the point I am trying to prove.

As for the drugs in "HARLOWE",they do not come from Harlowe which is in Carteret County they pass through Harlowe coming out of Craven Corner and Adams Creek which is in Craven County

To Erica Vella,MLJ is correct. You do need to stay in school and try to improve your command of the language, which could be part of the problem with your sister, in terms of lack of education, which may have led her to sell drugs because she may not have any marketable skills to allow her to get a good job.

@ sunny 14 : My point is to make it known that all of you people can hide behind your computers write on the internet to make yourselves feel better or whatever this does for you. Fact of the matter is we are all sinners some bigger than others but we are all sinners. Some of you just have the luxury of not having your name slammed on the paper with a bad photograph. I'm done trying to get my point across to you simple minded people. If you only knew is all I have to say. The end. Oh and Sunny its funny how you get 2 words out of that whole thread.. @ MLJ - oops typo meant *learning*

My point simply is that if you don't believe people should be judged, then there is no need for you to mention "what about....." period.

@Erica Vella-I am truly sorry for your family's troubles. I hope your sister gets the help she needs. That said, I am glad you are going to school. I hope you are taking English classes so you can learn how to spell and use proper punctuation. Good luck.

@ Sunny 14 - .Ive read over all my comments and I'm not seeing your point. The mention of Down east and Harlowe seems to really shake you people up. PLEASE people get off your high horses. Okay if it makes you feel better NEW BERN craven terrace duffy field.. they only go after the easy people to grab up just like everyone else they want to get credit for doing there job without actually doing anything. So before you talk about things you may think you know : Frank Galizia,Boyce Floyd and Ralph Thomas Jr. This is a problem going on all over the country, My Sister and Brad are two small players in a very LARGE game. We want clean streets but never get the people actually distributing to the drug dealers... The Reason Is, that would entail doing some actual work and/or something much more sinister. AGAIN not condoning my sisters actions or involvement but the fact remains whoever these people are that are selling there prescriptions(that obviously don't need it) wait a bit then sell there scripts to someone else as the cycle continues so on and so on so you all may think this is great and cleaning the streets but in turn all the Sheriffs did was help them get off drugs its good for our family and my sister and Bradley and I thank them for that . As for COMMON SENSE other comment, I do read the paper just not the small drug dealers getting caught everyday, I like to see the SBI doing a good job uncovering the real deal. good bye last comment have at it !

Erica Vella, I am curious as to your thinking when you mention down east and harlowe. Are you implying that the arrest of these poor misguided, misunderstood, hard-knocked life, and trying to make a living individuals is acceptable? Don't arrest my sister and her boyfriend but by all means arrest someone else's sister and boyfriend. It's called double standards and hyprocrisy because you my dear are judging others yourself.

@ common sense - hmm I strongly belive all drugs are a big threat. as for Drinking and Driving. I dont exclude one substance for another. Anything that causes effects on the brain and impare a person should ALL BE A THREAT I dont want to be driving with my 2 year old and be at risk for anyone who is under the influence of anything .. so COMMON SENSE go get some.

as for all of you with this accountability i never said what my sister did was right I never said she was a saint and I never said she didnt deserve this because hopefully it will grant her the oppurtunity that she will need. I was defending my sister not her actions. Thanks and hope this sort of thing never ever effects any of you drug addiction is a horrible thing that ruins lives. I just thought maybe this day in age people wouldnt be so quick to judge a person like all of you have. I might be nieve or protecting or watever you may think, It really doesnt matter to me, but my sister (my older sister) I have always looked out for. and will never stop. hope all of you have great holidays with your family. ~erica

All that I was meaning to say was that she is 21 years old and made stupid choices in her life. Dont judge anyones life because you have not lived there journey is a famous quote i belive in. If any of you people knew my sister you would know how I feel. I have helped my sister as much as legally allowed. I love her very much and Im just offended of what people say about people they know nothing about but thats my opinon right? As for down east and harlowe please everyone knows the only bust they make is catching the drug addicts coming out of there with it. Either way, I will be getting my sister the help she deserves and this will be just another paper you read and voiced your opinion about but this is a article that involves my sisters life changing for the better beat on her with your nasty words all you want us VELLAS are better than that.

Good job to all law enforcement involved. Now, let's see the justice system sentence them with the punishment the laws allow, and every other pill pushing/popping, pot peddling, (insert recreational drug of choice here) dealers and users that get busted. Crack down and set enough examples and maybe these individuals will get the idea that Carteret county might not be the best choice to conduct business. Legalize pot? Maybe they will, but then the government will tax it to death and over regulate it and everyone will be illegally going to same folks they are now buying it from because they can't afford the legal stuff. So, in the end what does legalizing it really accomplish unless law abiding Uncle Joe and Aunt Sally decide they want light one off?

Here's a novel idea, let's legalize marijuana. We can charge taxes on it to fatten up our politicians some more, give farmers another crop to grow and migrant workers another crop to pick, we can reduce the number of people in jail which will relieve some of the strain to us tax payers, heck inmates may even get some premium channels on their cable packages. We may be able to take some of the money we save from the jails and invest in ways to keep people from selling their prescriptions to make ends meet. It's as simple as this folks, supply and demand. There obliviously someone out there who is willing to buy the product and there will always be those willing to take the chance to sell it.

Weed should be legalized or at the least decriminalized. Can't believe we're still locking folks up for smoking grass?? They had roughly 2 oz of weed...oooohhh! That's a relatively small amount. Not like they had pounds of the stuff.

Covering for someone and defending their actions won't help them in the least. It's only thru being held ACCOUNTABLE that they'll get the help they need. They need to take responsibility for what they've done and so do the family members who knew about it ~ Staying quiet does NOT equal help for these people. More people should speak up if they really wanted to help them .......

And obvously Erica you do not read the paper until one of your family members are arrested for dealing pills. They do bust dealers down east and in harlowe. Ive read those articles a thousand times. As for you "bust the cocaine dealers" comment. Pills have caused more overdose deaths in this county then cocaine has so you tell me which is the bigger threat?

" you dont know them so stop judging "Please, give us a break. You keep posting about how we don't know the facts or we don't know them.As a matter of fact, you have spoken up for their character more than once on this thread.Did you ever stop to think that maybe they ARE drug addicts, and/or dealers. The evidence gathered seems to support that. Especially since the police caught them with the drugs.I understand you wanting to help your friends and family through what is a bad situation for them, but do you think that denying who they are and what they have done is going to help them?If you truly love them, and it seems that you do, then you need to put your efforts more towards helping them kick their habits, pay their debt, and change from their misguided ways, rather than trying to protect their reputation. It is a whole lot easier to forgive someone for a bad decision they have made, when they show that they have corrected their ways.As a non-alcoholic, alcoholic I will tell you first hand that if they are going to correct their ways, they are going to need help, and support.Even if covering for them would help in any way, it is still the least of all things you could do to help them.Clammerhead

In this day and age no one wants to accept accountability. If I do something wrong, I expect to get in trouble for it, (a consequence to fit my crime) and I am accountable for my decisions. It's always funny how many say "oh he/she wasn't really involved". Yes, they were, and they got what they got. You can see her rebellion in her face in the picture. Rather than remorse, she's got a "I can't wait to get even" look. Rediculous.

They are not murderers? If someone over dosed on the pills they are selling, would you still be on here making excuses for them? They are 21 with the mindset of 16 year olds because that's what happens when you eat pills all day, everyday. This is why people like these 2 do what they do:1) there will be no real punishment. Either they will get a cheesy lawyer, as stated by candy. 2)They will give up names, as stated by Erica and get a HUGE reduction in their punishment.3) No matter how bad a crime they commit, there is ALWAYS someone making excuses for them.
