Crews will be shutting down one lane at a time on the Morehead City-Beaufort bridge this week for routine inspections.

N.C. Department of Transportation engineering specialist II Danny Koonce said the engineering firm McLane Engineering will perform the bridge inspections through the week, weather permitting. He said the lane closures will be during the day and advised drivers to expect some traffic delays as crews work.

Could it be possible to schedule routine inspections simultaneously with construction to reduce the number of days requiring lane closures ? The work on the causeway has snarled traffic the past few weeks and now it is bridge inspections .
