CEDAR ISLAND — The N.C. Highway Patrol said Monday the investigation continues into a 3 a.m. Sunday wreck in this Down East community that resulted in the death of one person.

Sgt. R.G. Willis said that Jeremy Allen Fulcher, 43, of Harkers Island, was killed when a 1999 Chevy truck he was a passenger in veered to the left off West Bayshore Lane and struck a tree. Paul Landon Fulcher, 41, also of Harkers Island, was driving the truck at the time of the crash. Trooper Willis to his knowledge, the two men are not related.

The trooper said reckless driving, alcohol and drugs were contributing factors in the wreck. No one was wearing a seatbelt.

Two other passengers in the truck, Hugh Crandall Willis Jr., 25, of Gloucester, and a juvenile were treated and released from Carteret General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

No charges have been filed pending the conclusion of the investigation and follow-up consultation with 3B District Attorney Scott Thomas.

CEDAR ISLAND — The N.C. Highway Patrol reports a pickup truck accident Sunday morning left one man dead and three injured.

Trooper T.R. Morrison said the truck crashed into a tree on West Bayshore Lane  at 3:11 Sunday morning and passenger Jeremy Allen Fulcher, 43, of Harkers Island, died on impact, according to a WCTI12 report.

The trooper said the driver, Paul Landon Fulcher (no relation to the victim), 41, was impaired at the time of the accident, and speed was a contributing factor.

Trooper Morrison said the driver, as well as Hugh Willis Jr., 25, and a 15-year-old female were taken to a hospital and have non life-threatening injuries. He said no one was wearing a seatbelt.

The Highway Patrol is waiting to consult with the N.C. District Attorney's Office on Monday to determine charges.

Nothing will be done to these people who had this party.. Mark my words they will be at it again just give it six months or less. Why was a 15 year old girl out to a party with men of that age.. Maybe the Mother of the child needs to be held accountable also.. Someone needs to be held accountable. I'm sure nothing will happen to them...This story is just so sad

"No seat belts were being used", I see that phrase so many times in the news and am astonished each story where it is used. To not use a seat belt the driver and passenger actually have to go out of their way to disable the annoying alarms. Why are they not used in so many cases? Not cool? The others are not using them? It's a pain to put them on? Sorry folks I do not get it.

I certainly do not know if belt would have saved a life in this case, but it sure may have. A couple of weeks ago the two Marines were not wearing them, one died at about a fifty MPH crash. People cars are much safer now then 20 - 30 years ago. But the belts are an important part of the total package. In many cases people get ejected and smashed by their own cars.

Please put them on, give them a chance. It just may help.

This is such a sad story. Thoughts and prayers to the family. But maybe if and when the check points are done by the law if everyone would stop posting it on facebook or calling people they could get more drunk drivers. They need to do something downeast about all the drunk drivers.. more check points, sitting at service stations, the local food places.. just sitting on the main hwy .. they are out there and they are killing innocent people.. just check some of the cars in the ditch. they got there half of the time by drunk drivers.. its time for adults to grow up.. do you not realize what you have done to this mans MOM..HIS DAUGHTER give it a month or two and they will be at it again.Who's family will be next . SO SAD GROW UP PEOPLE!!!

you drink, you drive, you die! or someone else does. why is this such a hard concept to grasp. you want to drink with friends at their house, then plan on staying over or not leaving until you are sober.
