MOREHEAD CITY — The Morehead City Fire and EMS Department reported via its Facebook page Sunday that a fire aboard a ship at the N.C. Port of Morehead City was under control and units from the department, as well as from the Beaufort Fire Department, had left the scene.

The fire call for the 500-foot, Hong Kong-registered cargo ship Albany Sound came in about 9:30 a.m. The MCFD Facebook post was made around 2:30 p.m.

According to scanner reports, 22 people were aboard the ship at the time. No injuries have been reported and cargo was unloaded.

On its Facebook page, the MCFD thanked Beaufort’s fire department for its help.

It also thanked the Atlantic Beach, Newport and Beaufort EMS departments for coverage and said the U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the incident.

The Facebook post said the damage is mostly confined to the crew’s sleeping area.

Fire department officials did not immediately respond to calls for further comment.
