MOREHEAD CITY — The respiratory therapy students at Carteret Community College will host Friday the annual Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis.
The 5K walk will start at noon at the college on Arendell Street with registration starting at 11:30 a.m. at the east entrance of the McGee building on campus.
The walking route will wind around the campus, and proceed east along Arendell Street to the Atlantic Beach bridge and return to the college.
“We are inviting the public to join us,” said Trisha Miller, coordinator of the college’s respiratory therapy program.
“This year, our student walkers will be wearing black ribbons in recognition of those killed or injured by the Boston Marathon bombing,” said Ms. Miller. “I hope anyone who is unable to join us for the walk will please give by sponsoring one of the student walkers. We want to make this year’s walk a huge success.”
Ms. Miller said every day, about three babies are born with cystic fibrosis in this country, and every day at least one person with CF dies.
“We need the public’s help to ensure that CF research continues at its rapid pace. The cost of this research continues to rise as sophisticated, new technology is being developed to save these precious lives.”
Participants will be asked to pay a $10 registration fee, which will be sent to the coordinating cystic fibrosis chapter.
