Jackie “Jack” Eugene Hewitt, 74, of Swansboro, passed away Friday Jan. 4, 2019, at Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville.

His service is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home chapel in Swansboro with the Rev. Ron Gurganus officiating.

He was born Aug. 31, 1944, in Bogue, a son of the late Ezekiel and Edith Taylor Hewitt. Jack faithfully served his country in the U.S. Air Force and then served in the U.S. National Guard and had a career in civil service as an airplane mechanic. He was also a member of the Swansboro Volunteer Fire Department and worked at the Star Hill Golf Course.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy Petrowski Hewitt of the home; daughter, Pamela Spencer of Wilmington; stepson, Steven Shova and wife Nicky of Columbia, S.C.; and grandchildren, Justin Spencer, Blake Shova and Alex Shova.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Hewitt.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
