ATLANTIC BEACH — One man was pulled from the ocean by bystanders Saturday afternoon near the Beaufort Avenue beach access, according to the Atlantic Beach Fire Department.

The water rescue call came in around 3:15 p.m.

Chief Mike Simpson told the News-Times beachgoers pulled a 37-year-old male from the water and lifeguards performed CPR before emergency crews arrived and transported the victim to Carteret Health Care.

“The patient had a good pulse on arrival and is in critical condition,” Chief Simpson said Saturday evening.

This is a developing report.
