MARSHALLBERG — Officials say an overnight fire Tuesday destroyed a home Down East.

The single-story, doublewide trailer at 114 Chadwick Creek Lane caught fire around 8 p.m. Tuesday, though the cause remains undetermined.

Two family pets were lost in the blaze, which took crews roughly three hours to extinguish, Marshallberg firefighter Tom Mann told the News-Times Wednesday.

The family was not at home when the fire started and no injuries were reported.

The homeowner’s brother, was at the site of the burned trailer Wednesday helping clean up. He said the homeowner did not wish to speak about the incident at the time, but the family is glad no one was hurt.

Mr. Mann said the home is a total loss, and the county fire marshal was continuing to investigate the cause of the fire Wednesday. One vehicle was also damaged by the flames.

The American Red Cross is helping the family, fire officials said.

Crews from Marshallberg, Otway, Harkers Island, Davis and Stacy fire departments responded to the scene, along with the county paramedic, according to Mr. Mann.

This is a developing story.
