MOREHEAD CITY — Morehead City firefighters arrived in time Thursday to prevent a fire on Industrial Drive from doing serious damage.

A 911 call went out about 10:29 a.m. Thursday for a report of flames and smoke coming out of the back of a building at 126 Industrial Drive. The Morehead City Fire Department responded and Fire Chief Jamie Fulk said they forced entry and quickly extinguished the fire in the rear of the building before it spread or caused noticeable damage from outside the building.

The fire occurred in an unmarked building between Eastway Mobile Home Supply and Big Rock Granite & Marble. Chief Fulk said the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

As of Thursday morning, the cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.

A Big Rock Granite & Marble employee made the 911 call to report the fire. She declined to comment or give her name.
